Sharon Voyer Lavigne, Incoming OTIS President CT Pregnancy Exposure Information Service
Ms. Voyer Lavigne serves on the faculty in the School of Medicine as a clinical Instructor in the Division of Human Genetics, Department of Genetics and Developmental Biology at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, CT. She graduated from Northeastern University and went on to receive a Master’s of Science in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling from Sarah Lawrence College.
She has worked for the CT Pregnancy Exposure Information Service for more than 15 years; the last nine of which she has served as the Coordinator of this program. She has been active in OTIS for many years, including Co-Chair of Education Committee, member of Public Affairs committee, former Executive Council member, Meeting planning committee member, Isotretinoin committee and the Abstract committee. She is currently the Research Coordinator representing her service. She is also a member of the Teratology Society.
Ms Voyer Lavigne’s research interest lies in psychiatric diseases in pregnancy and their treatment, and prevention of prenatal isotretinoin exposures. As a genetic counselor, the counseling aspects of teratogen counseling services are also a primary focus for her.

 

Christina D. Chambers, Ph.D. OTIS President CTIS Pregnancy Risk Information
Dr. Chambers is Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. She graduated from California State University, received a Masters in Public Health from San Diego State University, and a PhD in Public Health/Epidemiology from the University of California and San Diego State University. She has worked as an epidemiologist with CTIS Pregnancy Risk Information for the last 8 years. Dr. Chambers' interests are in the areas of birth defects epidemiology and perinatal epidemiology, with a special focus on human teratogens. She is currently funded to conduct research on the prevention of risky alcohol consumption among pre-pregnant Latinas. She serves as the chairperson of the Teratology Society's Public Affairs Committee, and has been an active member of the Research Committee for the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists.

 

Janine E. Polifka, Ph.D. OTIS Past President
Care Northwest
Dr. Polifka serves on the faculty in the School of Medicine and is Clinical Instructor in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. She has been coordinator of the TERIS (Teratogen Information System) Database for the past 15 years. She is also co-Director of CARE Northwest, a teratogen information service in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Polifka is a member of the Teratology Society and is currently the Book Review Editor for the Birth Defects Research Journal, the official journal of the Teratology Society. Her research interest is in clinical teratology, especially risk assessment and communication.

Dr. Polifka received an M.A. and Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Louisville and served a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in teratology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
